Terms of Service

Terms of Service & EULA.

Last updated May 28, 2026. Effective for all users of the Otto iOS app and the ottokeep.com marketing site.

Counsel review recommended. This document is production-ready and covers the material legal requirements for App Store distribution, including Apple’s Schedule 2 auto-renewing subscription disclosure obligations. Before launch, have qualified legal counsel review jurisdiction-specific requirements (consumer protection law, applicable data-protection rules, governing law clause) for your entity and primary markets. The substantive terms below are intentionally accurate — this note is a reminder to localise, not to discard.

1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Otto iOS application (the “App”) or visiting ottokeep.com (the “Site”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use Otto.

These Terms form a legal agreement between you and the individual or entity operating Otto (“Otto”, “we”, “us”). A full company entity and registered address will be published on this page before the iOS app launches publicly.

You must be at least 16 years old to use Otto. By accepting these Terms you confirm you meet that requirement.

2. Description of service

Otto is an on-device AI accountant for iPhone. It uses Apple Foundation Models and Apple’s Vision framework to capture receipts via camera, parse transactions, categorise spending, and answer questions about your household finances — entirely on your device. No financial data leaves your iPhone except via opt-in iCloud sync to your private CloudKit container.

Otto is a personal-finance organisation tool, not a licensed financial, tax, investment, or legal adviser. See Section 9 for the full disclaimer.

Otto requires iOS 26 or later. Certain features (e.g. Apple Mail receipt scanning) require explicit permission grants in iOS Settings. Otto does not connect to bank APIs, card networks, or any external financial data provider; all data you see comes from what you manually capture or import.

3. Auto-renewing subscriptions

Otto is offered as a paid subscription with no free tier. The following plans are available:

PlanBilling periodPriceFree trial
Weekly7 days$4.99 / weekNone
Monthly1 month$14.99 / month3 days
Yearly1 year$99.99 / year3 days

Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscription prices are displayed in your local currency in the App Store at the time of purchase.

Auto-renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your Apple ID account is charged within 24 hours before the end of the current period.

Managing or cancelling. You can manage and cancel your subscription at any time via iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Otto. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access until then.

Free trials (Monthly & Yearly plans). The Monthly and Yearly plans include a 3-day free trial for new subscribers. The Weekly plan has no free trial. If you purchase a subscription during an active free trial, the remaining trial period is forfeited and billing begins immediately. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited upon purchase of a subscription to that publication, where applicable.

Price changes. If we change subscription pricing, Apple will notify you and obtain your consent before charging you at the new rate.

Subscription management is handled entirely by Apple. These Terms do not supersede Apple’s App Store terms, which also apply to your purchase.

4. Refund policy

Payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. Otto does not issue refunds directly. All refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with their App Store Terms of Sale. To request a refund, use Apple’s “Report a Problem” process at reportaproblem.apple.com.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of the App.
  • Use Otto for any unlawful purpose, including tax evasion, money laundering, or fraud.
  • Attempt to interfere with, disable, or circumvent any security or access-control feature of Otto.
  • Resell, sublicense, or distribute the App or your subscription to third parties.
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, scripts) to interact with Otto outside of normal use.

Violation of these restrictions may result in termination of your subscription without refund, at our sole discretion.

6. Your data & privacy

Otto is designed so that your financial data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync. We do not collect transaction data, receipts, categorisation results, or AI query outputs. The App operates entirely on-device using Apple Foundation Models.

Our full privacy practices — including what the marketing site collects and your rights under GDPR and equivalent laws — are set out in our Privacy Policy.

7. Intellectual property

All content, design, code, branding, trade marks, and AI-generated assets that make up Otto (the App and the Site) are owned by or licensed to us. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial household-finance management.

You retain full ownership of the financial data you enter into Otto. We claim no rights over your ledger, receipts, or any data processed on your device.

8. Third-party services

Otto integrates with or depends on the following third-party platforms:

  • Apple App Store & StoreKit — subscription billing and in-app purchase. Apple’s terms govern the purchase.
  • Apple CloudKit — opt-in device sync through your private iCloud container. Apple’s iCloud terms apply.
  • RevenueCat — subscription status and entitlement management. RevenueCat receives your Apple App Store receipt; it does not receive your financial data.

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or policies of these third-party services. Their respective terms of service apply to your use of those services.

9. No financial advice — disclaimer of warranties

Otto is not a licensed financial adviser, tax adviser, accountant, investment adviser, or legal adviser. Everything Otto produces — transaction categorisations, spending summaries, budget suggestions, AI-generated answers to your questions — is informational only and does not constitute financial, tax, investment, or legal advice. Do not make financial decisions based solely on Otto’s output. Consult qualified professionals for advice specific to your circumstances.

Otto is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including (without limitation) warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that defects will be corrected. On-device AI model availability depends on Apple; we cannot guarantee model availability on every device or iOS version.

Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of implied warranties. In those jurisdictions the above exclusion applies to the maximum extent permitted by law.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will Otto, its operators, or its licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of data, loss of profits, or financial loss — arising from your use of or inability to use Otto, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or your use of Otto shall not exceed the total subscription fees you paid to Apple in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Termination

You may stop using Otto at any time and cancel your subscription via iOS Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, misuse the App, or if we discontinue the service entirely.

If we discontinue Otto, we will give reasonable notice (minimum 30 days where practicable) via the email associated with your App Store account and via this website.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of [Jurisdiction — to be confirmed by counsel before launch]. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of [Jurisdiction].

If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, nothing in these Terms affects your rights under mandatory applicable consumer-protection law in your country of residence.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For existing subscribers, material changes take effect 30 days after notice — we will notify you via the email address associated with your Apple ID account or via an in-app notice. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
